MISSED OPPORTUNITY

I had a brother who left the seminary. I was at a loss for the reason behind his departure, until he told me he felt homesick. Only then did I realize that his invitations to go out for a walk, to stay a little longer over snacks and have small talks, were his way of asking for help; for a companion. It was too late when I realized this. What a missed opportunity that was.

God gives everyone the opportunity to hear His good news of salvation. He sowed the Word of God to all, even to the rocks and pathways. He takes the risk of the possibility that the seeds of Good News may grow even in these barren spaces. He gives chances to be a better person even to the sinful. He uses ordinary things to convey His message to all. He used parables with images more familiar to the people of His time. Do we lend our ears, eyes, and ourselves to God that we may hear and perceive His Will? How do we take the opportunities God provide to us to yield a harvest thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold?

We can only take the opportunities God is giving us if we know them. And it takes a silent, patient, discerning and a prayerful heart to perceive and hear the message of God in our life. Only a sensitive heart can make sense out of seemingly senseless things around him.

Everyone has the opportunity to be fruitful and be good.
Few take the chance, for few perceive and listen to the Good News.
Others simply miss the opportunity.
