PAANO BA MAG MOVE ON?

Paano ba mag-move-on? Moving on to a new approach is necessary when confronted with a new reality, lest the new reality may be misunderstood if one keeps on looking at it through old lenses. The graces and joys brought about by a new wine might be spilled and wasted should it be placed in old wine skins. How do we move-on from the old to the new?

Be open to the possibility of change. Change is one of the things that is permanent in this world. People who resist change are those who deprive themselves of the freshness of new things in their lives. What they have in the present is for them the best. Nothing can be better than the "best" thing they have at hand. Consequently, there occurs an inbreeding of ideas in their life for nothing innovative comes in. They are the most unexcited people who live a blunt and monotonous life where nothing changes (who eat the same food, who watch the same movie over and over again). They hate surprises, for caught unprepared, they will not know what to do or how to react. Truth be told, they are simply afraid whenever the boat is racked or when the status quo is changed.

But the world is replete with new things, new technology, and development of understanding. And so it is in our life as Christians. When some people thought the fasting of the disciples of John and of the Pharisees is the best way, Jesus showed them something so much better. That is, feasting in the presence of the bridegroom; in the presence of Christ. What a missed opportunity it is to venture to new realities in life should we not welcome change. If we are close-minded, we might miss the great Feast in the presence of Christ.

Being open-minded does not mean you are open through and through; that you do not hold on something. Being open to the possibility of change is having a welcoming attitude for the new things that may come along our way while holding on to time-tested truths. What should we hold on to, then, as we welcome the new things in our life? One thing which we can hold on to is the fact that any new wine, as long as it is handed by Christ to us, is so much better than any old wine; that the plan which God holds for us are far greater than the one which we have conceived long time ago. (MY CONFESSION REGARDING MY ASSIGNMENT TO CALAMBA). Believe that the new wine which Christ is offering us is so much better than the old.

Be prepared to be surprised!
For as we aspire to change for the better,
through Christ we are changed for good.
